The Scroll
16/10/2024
Evening again, I hope everyone has had a nice day.
I’m pretty sure I wrote about this in the Scroll recently, my mind is not what it was. As Dan says here, in the UK we are now out of sync with the rest of the Western world. Were we see a move to the right and a visceral anger for those who implemented and continued the policies that brought us to where we are. There was always a first mover advantage to realising the public were at the limit of patience for what you’re putting them through. It couldn’t be more obvious that economic migrants are choosing from the menu available to them and by removing the incentives for them to come to your country, they will likely go elsewhere. The last thing you want is to the be last nation with a welcoming open seat at your table. But that’s exactly what the UK is going to be. Yes we have the channel to get across which isn’t quite as simple as moving through the EU nations, but from the numbers reaching our shores each day not much harder! As we spoke about on Horizon Scan over the weekend, the UK government has a contract out for another six years of migrant facilities, with the option to extend for a further four. So the people telling you they hear what you tell them, that they’ll stop the boats, expect no let up in arrivals for the next ten years. If they had a plan to stop them, why would these provisions be necessary? The more I look at this the more it looks like a deliberate attempt to continue the process that started post WW2 of hamstringing the UK in any way possible and pushing it further and further down the relevance scale. For people who don’t understand why the US election might be genuinely important to the UK, if, and it’s a big if, when Trump wins he follows through on even half of hat he’s been saying and the US starts to see the glimmer of a turn around, the pressure on the UK government becomes even more intense. When the UK populous look to the US and EU and see a change in fortune, those in power will be unable to insist what’s required is impossible. The worst thing for the authoritarian who’ll tell you what you want isn’t possible, is the control group doing exactly that and succeeding.
