Morning all, let’s see what this timeline has in store today.
Imagine my shock! If you’re a Horizon Scan listener you’ll have known this was coming for months. Zelensky has been dropping hints about looking for negotiation and seeking a way out for a few weeks now and yesterday he met with the heads of J.P. Morgan and Blackrock among some other large fund managers to formally discuss financing the rebuilding of his country - never seen this chain of events before have we. So in Ukraine we now have US a vassal state with the bulk of it’s native fighting age male population dead. If the Biden team decide they don’t want to give the win to Trump, we’ll see a ceasefire before the election. If not, Trump will come in and negotiate a settlement and then in time we’ll see everything move to the Middle East. As for Ukraines future, it’ll likely be used as a test bed for all manner of tech and policy that Western leaders would like to bring to their countries, but they know there’d be too much resistance. The people who would be an effective resistance in Ukraine are dead. In their minds if they can show the new world they envisage works in Ukraine, sell it as a huge success and bounce-back after the war, then it’s easier to sell to their own people. I’d put money on them solving the population problem created by the war by importing people. The question is whether it’s Africans, Palestinians or Jews.
Are the Democrats are going to have one more crack at the win or are at least considering it? They know there’s no way Biden can beat Trump now and if Biden stands down prior to the election (obviously he may just not run for another term, not stand down from the job. But if you’re you’re not well enough to run you’re not well enough to run the country) then Kamala is in the chair and there’s no way she can beat Trump either. So do they have a big play they’re hoping can somehow win? After last weekend that’s a scary prospect.
I’m not super convinced they do though. The vibe shift is too great towards the right. I think it’s more likely that they have pretty much conceded and even if Kamala has to come in for a bit and then get rinsed in the election, Biden is still being prepared to take the fall for all the madness we’ve seen for the past 8 years. If he doesn’t die in office - perfect for the blame option - he’ll die soon after leaving before he’s able to take the stand and get questioned about all the sketchy goings on with money to Ukraine. To be honest he probably doesn’t even need to die, they can just say his brain is complete mush and there’s no point trying to ask him anything. Once he’s holding the bag (I’m pretty sure the bag and its contents are his anyway) that’s the cleanest break you can get, tie a bow on it and move on.
😂😂😂 - I promise you I wrote the above, continued scrolling and then this came up on my feed. Looks like we’re teeing up died in office then! We told you 2024 would be wild. They’re now talking about invoking the 25th amendment, basically kicking Biden out and putting Kamala in.
Along with DEI, ESG - Environment Social and Governance or green communism - is now going in the bin as well - Sorry to rub it in Hugh. To be fair ESG has been on the wane for a while, it’s been a complete failure returns wise for investors.
Not sure if we have any subscribers within the Met, but this and examples like it over the last 10 months are pretty bad optics aren’t they? I’d love to know what sentiment is like for the Officers having to enforce this.
I don’t really want to milk this story, but to be honest it’s still taking up 40-50-% of the feed and US politics close to 90%, so apologies for that. But it’s very clear now that they knew about the shooter an hour before he took the shots. There’s video of him walking around scoping out the rooftops. Can you imagine a honest scenario where you have a person of interest at a Trump rally and you’re part of the security team, you decide to take a look at the guy and he has a range finder on him and you just let him go about his business? At the very least you’re going to just ask him to leave and dick a deputy to escort him out of the area. Then 20 mins later after he’s been let go, he’s on a roof! Then even if there’s a comms issue that means the range finder fact hasn’t been passed to all of the team, there’s another 20 mins where no one says ‘dude, get that guy off the roof’. Incompetence doesn’t cover it.
LINK TO POST Well worth a listen.
Finally found something to finish off that’s not US-centric. Here we have Ben Habib of Reform UK laying out something that I’ve argued recently I think on Horizon Scan but certainly in some comments in Hugh’s H-Hour Discord server. You have to stop thinking in terms of left and right, certainly in the UK. The distinction is Globalist and Nationalists, those who defer to International organisations and those who want to see the interests of the UK put first. Being concerned about the interests of your own nation doesn’t mean you become some rogue state that shits on the rest of the World, it means you recognise that where possible your own house must be in order prior to you involving yourself in the affairs of others. You also recognise that what is good for one set of people and their nation, may not be good for your people and nation. ‘Well Britain never did that in the past, look at the Empire’… zzzzzzzz. I’m not interested in the past, I’m informed by it but interested in what is the sensible thing for us to do right now, not 100 years ago. Be wary of that approach people take, trying to constrain your options by shackling you to the actions of generations long dead.
I’m not trying to boost Reform here, but Ben Habib is a very sensible head, which is why it’s frustrating that Farage recently shit on him and demoted him, to replace him with a money man. Yes parties need money, but Habib has been fighting this fight for a long time and the new guy is a suspiciously fresh face. Uncool by Farage and doesn’t bode well.
As always please take the time to leave a comment or if you have the price of the nightmare syrup coffee your girlfriend orders at Starbucks handy, upgrade to paid. You’ll then continue to get access to The Scroll when it goes behind the paywall at the end of the month (bar one day a week) and the WhatsApp group we’re all active in - it’s actually good, not my experience of WhatsApp groups in general . If you’re enjoying The Scroll and Horizon Scan, please share to others who’ll appreciate it. I’m still hoping to get the paid subscription right down to as low as possible, a quid a month would be ideal, but we need numbers to do that. The more people subscribe, the lower I can take it
I might as well lay this out here for simplicity. I want the Substack to be my backup income for if the pendulum swings in the wrong direction and SEG get cancelled. If you happen to be a complete numbers nerd (I have dyscalculia) and would enjoy knocking up some kind of schedule to get us up to 2000 subscribers with the subscription cost being £1, where we hit certain levels along the way and that drops the subscription cost for everyone from where it is now at £7 down to £1 (or even lower if we can get more than 2000) then that would be super helpful and I’d probable chuck some SEG gear your way for the whoever’s system I took on. If we can get a bit of momentum with growing the subscription I can use SEG gear as incentives/rewards etc too I think. I’m going to look more into it.
As always I hate even having to have this conversation, but it’s sensible for me to have that safety net due to how unfashionable our ethos is. I want those who support me to have to pay the least amount possible, this seems a good way of doing that.
Anyway, thanks for reading, see you tomorrow.
