Morning,
There’s only one reason he’s doing this and it’s the same reason that Zuckerberg repositioned. He bought the Washington Post during the Obama administration and it’s remained left aligned to this day. Even the previous Trump administration didn’t lead to a shift in political focus - likely because Bezos used this as an opportunity to turn the failing Washington Post around through reader rage. But think about the amount of data that Bezos and Zuckerberg have access to. They don’t need to see polling whether that’s external or internal, they can look at what their customers are searching, reading, saying and buying - much of that in a natural personal capacity, not because an interviewer has put a form or mic in their face. He knows Trump is going to win and he’s going to enforce the changes within a company he owns to ensure it pivots away from the current path. He knows public sentiment is done with woke etc and it’s no longer going to be profitable for him to milk that cow, he wants to be on a winning team. Even physically himself - just lie Zuckerberg - he’s more sun and steel than soy and rainbows, now he’ll make his businesses reflect that.
A big test for Starmer here as there’ll be calls for him to resign over this and they’re completely warranted. He told the nation - who knew the truth almost immediately, because the internet is a thing - on multiple occasions that they were bigots and racists for saying so. There are now people in prison as a result of the justified reaction to the government attempting to gaslight and insult them into submission. All of this information would have been available within a very lenient 24hrs and should have been publicised. He and the Home Secretary repeatedly stood in full possession of the facts and lied to the public. I still think there’s something else to come eventually, but that’s an even bigger shit storm that’d go wider than just having to sacrifice the PM who’s historically unpopular anyway.
