Morning, I hope you’re sitting comfortably? Could be a shorter one today as I’ve got to take a cat to the vets, so let’s go.
I’m fairly sure when Hugh and I spoke about this case on Horizon Scan I said we should blend her? So if it turns out to be a miscarriage of justice I suppose that’s a good argument against the death penalty unless you have DNA or similar proof. From memory I think we did focus on leadership within the department being a huge issue, so if it turns out as it looks like it may, that she was a scapegoat used to cover for much larger problems at least we got something right. Either way hopefully things move fast on this and we find out the truth.

I think we’re looking at a looming battle over proportional representation. The results of the GE were so stark on this manner that you really do get a feeling of ‘make it make sense’ when you see who gets what seats at the end of it. The push back from the current main parties will be huge as FPTP has helped to ensure their survival. I’m starting to feel a growing vibe shift and distrust in democracy as a fair functioning system. Nothing stays the same forever.
If you’re a Horizon Scan listener then you’ll know where I am on the Ukraine war, if not maybe go and have a listen back, but it should have ended two years ago. The fact that the Americans and now the British have agreed to this is mental. It should go without saying the reality on the ground and who is fighting is always a grey area, but public action like this just drags us further into this, which of course is exactly what Western powers seems to want. Putin seems to be happy to suck it up in the short term in the hope that Trump wins, if he doesn’t shit is going to get real(er) very quickly. The fact that we’ve seen conscription and NS policy floated all across NATO members and recruiting ads in the UK and US featuring predominantly white protagonists actually doing their job instead of putting up rainbow flags or making everyone take 5 so they can bang out a quick prayer should inform you of a shift in focus. Though I’m confident that the those currently in power absolutely want a wider conflict in Ukraine that they hope would eventually regime change Russia, I don’t think the public have the stomach to see drone footage of their sons and daughters getting chased down and blown up.
You’d hope as the bloodline gets diluted so does the mental, but I doubt it. If you’ve heard this guy actually speak and if his speech is a good reflection of his intelligence but he has the same world view as his Dad… urggghh. I’m pretty sure he’s also gay, so WTF?
The Tory leadership contest is going to be seriously tiresome. But this is why Reform, if they’re interested in being a serious contender in the next decade should stay well clear. If there’s a merger then I think it’s game over. It’ll be like in the Matrix where non agents turn into agents to fight Neo, then you’ll get the same shit Conservative party, but with Farage dropping a bomb and getting headlines every few weeks before getting punished by the whips and increasingly sidelined. Then eventually having assimilated the virus, they will expel the original vector. Containment complete, back to centrist shit Cameron world. The media will love the soundbites and they’ll have their bad boy to get clicks from, but in the meantime the Labour Government will be doing what it likes, public distracted.
Terrible story, obviously. But I don’t remember killing any women with a crossbow and I don’t know anyone else who has done that either. I get licked out by this stuff and you should be under no illusion that these kinds of posts (they were EVERYWHERE yesterday) are from the same folder containing stuff about toxic masculinity. Yesterday far more men did something utilising the traits of their masculinity to protect those around them, than harmed them. Don’t stand for this shit, call it out when you see it. It’s no conspiracy that men are being feminised and the differences between the sexes blurred into a androgynous mush.

As I mentioned yesterday, Starmer is pulling the levers of power and it’s working because those who have the safety override on the levers are politically aligned with him. This should truly concern you, once we lose impartiality (hard to argue we haven’t in a lot of places already) shit gets wild. The dark side of this that some people will not like to consider, is that much of the striking was a political attack against the Torys and people will have died as a result. Unless it turn out that Labour have caved to pay demands, then what else is left? Dark.
This is one where you’re best clicking the link and watching Thiel explain it. Just expands on my view that 99% of regulation is for control, product moats and not safety. If you’re not aware of RAND, that’s worth a look too, lots of fun opinions there.
That’s it for today, will make up for the length tomorrow. - Something Hugh has said more than once 👀
Have a good one.
