Evening, it’s Friday!
The timeline is reaaaalllly bad, slop everywhere. I’ve noticed a pretty decent downturn in quality in the past few weeks, it feels like there’s a new pipe connected to the system that’s just firing inconsequential shite in your face constantly. I know I’m not the only one who thinks that, a few of my mutuals have said the same. When I get the chance I’m going to have to have a dig through the follower lists of people who are still giving quality and see if I can did out some more. This is the downside of Elon paying people to post, it increases the engagement farming and by prioritising video encourages more and more of the life sapping stuff you see on TikTok and Instagram reels. Endless videos about someone cleaning something really dirty, that are satisfying the first time, but that’s 15 minutes of life you’re never getting back.
Many of the accounts are based out in Asia and as a result someone made a good suggestion the other day. If you want a blue tick you should have to have the flag of the country your account is based in (which ideally should be the nationality of the individual) in the bio of your profile. Then add the ability to block content from specific nations if you want to. Of course this is unlikely because for some reason many of the accounts being boosted by Elon himself and those now attached to MAGAT are serving a purpose in nudging the UK towards a 2029 Reform victory - and they seem to be based in India.
I think there’s an element of fatigue in some people too, which is understandable, and it effects their posting. People in the UK are at their wits end with the state of the country and I think just want to curl up in a ball for a bit through the Christmas period and go again in the new year. In the US there was such a push to get Trump over the line only for a tonnes of mental shit to happen in short succession that people are overstimulated, they need a break and so it effectively looks the same as apathy. Take this dron
e stuff off the US coast, a few years ago this would be an international headline, but now the reaction is ‘is it us or aliens, or maybe Iran? I don’t know, meh, whatever’.
There’s also an element of us witnessing the character flaws of ‘the right’ in general, they never understand that there’s no end to the fight. The left are never guilty of this, they will always build and push and continue to solidify their positions. Apathy or not, sitting back and thinking ‘Trump has won, we did it’, is a failure mode. It’s this slumping into your armchair with a deep sigh of relief attitude that is partially responsible for some of Trump’s appointments being denied or currently in the process of being undermined. There’s been no plan to counter obvious attack vectors for them.
We see our own version of this in the UK as we settle for Reform basically because they’re not Labour or the Conservatives, that is not a winning formula. Reform will not commit to doing the things required to turn the Nation around and this is a calculated position. They understand that they only need to be not Labour or the Tories and they will gain votes due to the incompetence of those mainstay parties. Don’t get me wrong, they may well be the best of a bad bunch (of those who actually have a chance at winning currently), but is that all we can ask for? Is ‘good enough’ good enough, or should we strive to be adventurous and dynamic, to really push? Yes it may be baby steps and 2029 is long way off yet, but we have to be mindful not to settle. The online discourse in the US absolutely helped to steer the conversation in the years up to their election, this was obvious to anyone paying attention. Despite how tired everyone is and despite how demoralising it can be to see the same old power influences having an impact during such an opportunity for change, it’s essential to keep going. For us in the UK that means insisting on what you want, not being bought off with half measures.
You must communicate as such, which is easier than you think because your competition are genuinely wrong in most cases. You’ll also have those on the right insisting that you do settle, they’ll attack you and seek to undermine you. We’ve seen this recently with chief gatekeepers James Lindsey and Konstantin Kisin attempting to sell a (completely and hilariously rejected) narrative about ‘the woke right’, which upon analysis amounts to ‘you can only find issue with this set of subjects, these others over here are my pet issues and are off limits’. Learn to notice when people do this to you, ask yourself ‘what’s the reason I’m not allowed to look in that box of yours’.
Enjoy your evening.
