Morning,
Thanks to all who took the time to complete the survey yesterday, it really helps me take into account things I haven’t considered or didn’t realise were more relevant than they are. On thing I think it’s probably important to clarify, is the why I write The Scroll every day. I explained initially that it’s a practical use of something I do anyway as part of my morning routine, scroll through X and see what’s been going on while I’ve been asleep. Although I know people find it useful to highlight issues that they may be missing due to them not being mainstream, it’s never intended as a true morning intelligence brief or anything like that, even on the more serious ones. It’s genuinely just my thoughts on stuff I found interesting, that you can take or leave, I’m certainly not your single point of truth or trying to tell you want to think. I view it as a bit of fun more than anything else, something to do while you poo - I mean there’s literally a guy having a shit as the ‘logo’. But it’s obvious from the responses that many people see it as more than that.
Two other aspects that were highlighted - and I haven’t seen all responses yet because they trickle in over a few days, next few Scrolls might have comments about them - were that it can be too political and not focussed enough on the SEG ethos. I can see the political point, I feel that myself sometimes, but one of the goals I set myself at the start of doing this was that I wouldn’t attempt to deliberately curate the topics just because some annoy me, it’s just what comes up on my following and for you feeds while scrolling and I try to be fairly disciplined about that. I don’t go searching for stories, but I do conduct brief research when needed if I’m not fully familiar with a topic once I’ve chosen it. If that happens to be political and I think there’s something interesting about it, then I’ll put it in.
As for the ethos, perhaps I see the relevance of it with what I’m posting more than readers do. Part of personal responsibility, service, and You Are Your Actions is the awareness that enables readiness and helps ensure capability. Much of what I end up writing about is not mainstream, it’s not some big secret, but often you’re not going to see it on the news or in the papers and there’s a reason for that. My highlighting something, or giving an alternative take on what’s being said, should go some small way to you noticing it and thinking about how relevant that is to you and those you care about. Many of the characters and events that stand out to me, do so because they’re examples of people not living how this community does, even if they’re in positions that would benefit from it. These are often leaders or those in service professions. To my mind they serve as examples of what not to do and often I’ll say exactly what I think should have been done - doesn’t mean I’m right, but that’s for you to decide, that’s personal responsibility. It’s then down to you to take anything you think is useful and apply it in your daily life.
The third thing would probably be to stay away from tin foil stuff and I put that in as an option because I was interested in seeing what people thought. Now you will know if you’re a Horizon Scan viewer that the conspiracy stuff we indulge in for a bit of fun most of the time - it actually surprised me how many people who read The Scroll don’t listen watch Horizon Scan! When I mention Hugh in here, who do they think that is, my husband??! So generally we treat it as a bit of fun and I think usually it’s obvious (but maybe not) which topics that relates to. The problem here is each person’s opinion of what topic is a conspiracy theory. To people fully immersed in what they read in the papers, established magazines, journals and watch on the news, I’m sure almost every take I have on something would be a shock to them and is something they’ve been informed is untrue, fake news, a conspiracy theory only held by extremists. There’s not much I can do about that and I’m not here to argue with you or persuade you, your opinion is your responsibility. Although I have to say I am interested to know which of the topics I talk about here and opinion I throw out as accepted fact, some readers roll their eyes at because it’s tin foil territory to them. I think if I attempted to hand hold each reader completely through a topic and drop a bibliography of what made me come to my conclusions then this whole thing would become too long winded and zero fun. All I do is say what I think, occasionally drop a book or a follow suggestion and if people are interested in in seeing another viewpoint they can go for it.
Final point before we do a bit of scrolling. There’s one guy who always asks for more content like I did years ago where I just walk the dogs, get my phone out and talk about the SEG ethos. I’m not really against doing that stuff again if there’s real demand, although I’m unsure now where I’d post it. The main reason I don’t do it any more is it makes me feel uncomfortable portraying myself as someone who has his shit together and is in a position to actively tell other people how to live their life and solve problems. I’m as much of a fuck up as everyone else and that’s not false humility. I’m drowning not waving a lot of the time. I’m more comfortable living my life, mentioning what I think about things and why I do stuff. If that example influences people so be it. Perhaps it’s my perception of it, but that feels passive as opposed to actively telling people what they should be doing, that feels too much like you standard ex military inflooencooooor. We joke about the SEG cult stuff, but although I know the vast majority of people just find the ethos useful, there are some people who really do want a leader to TELL them what to do all the time, this is the opposite of personal responsibility. Not aiming this at you video content guy. I just don’t think it’s helpful to lean into that. As I’ve said a few times, if I get kicked out of Bulgaria one day and end up back in the UK, I’ll be so pissed off I’ll have to do something political,. At that point I’m happy to lean more into any leadership stuff - but you don’t want that 😂 - I’m in my John Matrix phase in the Bulgarian mountains and enjoying it!
The culture argument is one none of us want to have because it’s completely against the mainstream liberal narrative that all humans are basically interchangeable and that dropping someone on a different piece of soil instantly transforms them culturally, overriding generations of instilled beliefs and previous experience. This is demonstrably false, see multiculturalism. But because it’s been decided by our leaders that our countries require high levels of immigration, pointing out the issue with culture will see you attacked and a smeared as being a racist or something similar. We saw this yesterday when Kemi Badenoch did just that and the press lost their shit. You are allowed to prefer your own culture, just as you are allowed to prefer other peoples’. It is perfectly right and reasonable to express, particularly when asked, the specifics of what practices happen in other cultures that you think are unhelpful or even barbaric. Every time you allow yourself to be shamed into not answering honestly, a part of you, your self esteem, dies and at scale if we all lie, British culture dies. Now you may say those people entering the UK have a right to prefer their own culture to British culture and you’re completely correct, which is why those people are not suitable to enter. There must be recognition that if you chose to leave your own land and live in another, that you recognise that new land has conditions superior for your needs and that it came to be that way due to the culture that built it and maintains it. Therefore you should choose not to disrupt those conditions and learn to practice them yourself, thereby becoming a part of it. Unless of course your plan is not to integrate, but to override the native culture over time and instill your own, which is fine, but then I have the right to fight and remove you.
If the British government refuses, as it is currently, to help The Falkland Islanders tap this resource in the name of climate targets in our current state of energy insecurity, I think that amounts to deliberate sabotage of the UK’s interests, treasonous incompetence. That the Islanders have basically told the government to poke it and they’re enabling the extraction anyway is actually a triumph of British spirit. Luckily Melei is in no position currently to do anything about this and perhaps isn’t inclined to do so anyway. But do not underestimate the fire that would be lit within Parachute Regiment soldiers ex and still serving (and I’m sure other units too), at the thought of a second Falklands war. Blokes would be booking flights and digging up weapons to go and defend it. You should note that at scale there is no such fire to serve in Ukraine and you should realise why.
Southpark fart syndrome.
Another election result in Europe trending in the same direction. There’s a lot of panic about this in some quarters, but it’s all been completely predictable and voiced loudly for many years. The majority of people in these nations do not want the version of their country and future that their current leaders do and so they will vote for those who desire the opposite, it’s that simple. You may not agree and the word remigration might really scare you, but it is an inevitable step towards reversing policies that have damaged European nations. It’s extremely likely we will see it in the UK in due course. Remember, in a democracy you have the right to vote for anyone you want, as do people you believe are wrong, misguided, misled, ignorant and stupid. If there are more of them than there are of you, you get their desires. It isn’t protecting democracy to try to stop that in any way other than keep voting for what you want. Do anything other than that and you’re not protecting the democratic system, you’re subverting and destroying it. Or to use the term now slipping into the US narrative, fortifying, which means cheating - which is fine, but you should be honest about that and realise you don’t want democracy, you want something else and you should say what that is.
It’s a whole new week! Have a good one.
Kemi Badenoch us probably the leader the Tories need. She neutralises a lot of obvious criticism of the party because of her gender and colour. Someone said to me last week 'But she'll push the party to the right' which in my opinion is where it needs to go to have any chance of staying relevant.
Because she is what the party needs, she almost certainly won't get the job.
