Happy Sunday, I hope everyone is having a nice day. Chilled one here, the first year anniversary of being in Bulgaria. As it’s Sundays we’ll try and keep it short and light.
I’ve seen various versions of this photo, all pretty funny. There’s been a few presenting it as some sort of gotcha, but I don’t think it is. If you don’t understand the context of it, RFK Jr is the new Trump health guy and apart from McDonalds perhaps not being the best healthy choice, RFK has singled them out for seed oil use and suggested they need to return to cooking their fries in tallow etc, which I agree they should. It’s a funny shit test from Trump to get him eating it - Trump famously basically lives on mcDonalds and Diet Coke. But for me it’s a good example of not being a bell end about your diet. Far too many people use it as a ‘look at me’ and make a huge fuss about not being able to eat something ensuring everyone makes allowances for them, this is not the way. I’ve spoken about my diet a few times on here and Horizon Scan, basically if it isn’t an animal or doesn’t come from one, I don’t eat it - bar fruit and the odd bit of sourdough when I feel like it. But I’m not a zealot about it, if I’m out socially I’ll just eat what’s there, I’ll never make a fuss. I use it as an excuse to have a change and it can be quite nice, even if it reminds me why I eat how I do. For example, yesterday I ate a huge bowl of cheesy tuna pasta, just fancied it. I didn’t start self harming over the shame and I quite enjoyed it while I was eating it. But after I’d eaten it the way I felt reminded me why I don’t bother and so I probably won’t do it again for months. Who knows what RFK is going to be like in practice, but the vibes are good and the reality is that vibes are enough a lot of the time for most people, they set the zeitgeist.
This is an example of what we’re dealing with institutionally throughout the west. People incapable of upholding professional standards because they’ve allowed themselves to become politicised, in no small part because their workplaces have been and so they must fall in line or suffer the personal consequences. You must understand that Penny could be you, particularity as a member of this community. But that should not stop you, if we choose that path then it all falls apart.
