Morning all, can we have a happy Sunday? Let’s see.
I made a joke about this on X last week when I first heard about it. Can you guess who predicted this 20 odd years ago? Karl Pilkington! 😂. He suggested in one of the Ricky Gervais Show podcast things, perhaps the one about the future, that he thought people would be able to wear special glasses that made the world look like they wanted it to look. So in effect you and I could be walking down the same street with the same physical layout and objects in it, but if we’re both wearing a pair of his glasses then the aesthetics of the world we see would be converted in real time - or reskinning as the poster above says - so it has the appearance we want individually. So you could live in a permanent golden hour, or be walking around a council estate but it looks like it’s all solar-punk. Or the opposite, walking around classic english country town, but it looks like soviet brutalism. Everyone lives in their own aesthetic version of reality. Now obviously in the above video that’s not happening through glasses in real time, but it’s the start of that process.
Fun loser factoid for you about the Ricky Gervais Show and the old XFM broadcasts, for about 15 years now at least, I’ve been listening to them to fall asleep every night - bar Ops with old work.
