Morning, hopefully the feed has improved today. It was the worst I’ve ever seen it yesterday 98% complete slop.
Ok firstly, ‘End Wokeness’ is a hideous slop/rage-bait account, but there’s something to discuss about this video. Secondly there’s no date stamp that I can see, so there’s nothing to suggest this is related in any immediate manner to the current response. But I think the point I’ll make is essentially the same regardless and disaster response experienced people can tell me to get back in my box if they like. To me the very simplified way you do this is:
Disaster happens
You see where the effects of the disaster hit worst, ie. if it’s a flood, where is the most flooded.
You see where that aligns with the places most unlikely to withstand the effects of that.
You triage your response to go to those places first and work down the list.
You help the people you find.
You reassess the above as you get facts off the ground, this is a constant process.
The fact that FEMA is even talking about prioritising people prior to a response is incredibly concerning. People who think in this manner should not even be employed by the organisation, it’s a fundamentally dangerous way of thinking. In a similar manner to what we’ve seen with the police or the NHS, showing any political/social leaning also contributes to the public’s of perception of your trustworthiness when dealing with them. As a responder turning up to help a group of people and upon assessing and triaging, the person I prioritise happens to be a middle aged white man, in a group of asian men and women and children, I want to give no ammunition to them to accuse me of bias. These policies do just that.
