Morning, let’s get back into it.
Two things are potentially happening with this, either Farage thinks he’s playing shit 4D chess by not admitting a truly held belief or he’s concerned about what the media will say. Both of them are failure modes. He also answered when asked about whether he supports Trump’s policy of mass deportations, that ‘I’m not going to get dragged down the route of mass deportations or anything like that’. The public are concerned about those things and many would support those policies, it’s why Farage and his party are surging in support. All he does by not publicly acknowledging that is show weakness and go a long way to convincing many of his supporters that his party is indeed containment and not serious about action. Below is a clip of Blair being interviewed recently taking a harder line than Farage does here, acknowledging that the current type of immigration - and legal at that - hasn’t helped the country. Obviously hilarious coming from Blair, but the point is that if Blair can do it, so can Farage. These subjects are now hitting the mainstream, gathering momentum and will continue to do so. That Farage cannot take the place at the head of that movement shows political cowardice, not cunning. Very damaging for him and Reform.
This is what Blair does by the way, it’s what he did with New Labour. He strategically outflanks to the right of the right, in a form of his own containment - hence why real leftists hate him - he’s not a ideologue in their mold. You can see what the poster says about Blair effectively enabling Farage here more than two weeks ago, Farage just failed that test.
