Let’s see what’s going on.
Well it appears we really are getting the gang back together, but this time they’re our mates. The Ukraine thing just didn’t feel the same as the good old war on terror, no vibes, Ukraine is so yesterday, GWOT is retro and the kids love it. The is the latest edition of the old Neocons of the US trying simultaneously get as much of the chess board where they want it to be as possible before Trump gets in, and if they can lock him into something in the process then bonus! No one had a clue what was going on here really in the last 24/48 hrs, as it all happened pretty quickly but it’s starting to slot into place a bit now. Looks like Russia and Iran have been trying to get Assad to take what was coming here seriously for a while but there was no real action taken. This has licked Putin out in particular, so when this HTS moved Russia and Iran didn’t help and that’s why they were able to take over so quickly. There’s a likely a bit of Russia just seeing it as juice not worth the squeeze anymore too, and just letting the US and Israel deal with it. You’re naive at this point if you’re not aware that the majority of these Islamist groups whose names change every two mins and shapeshift depending on the weather are Western creations. Their motivations obviously aren’t aligned with Western nations, but they’re a chaotic but useful way of achieving wider aims in various regions, basically a proxy army you genuinely don’t give a fuck about and sometimes end up fighting yourself. Chuck some cash here, arm some blokes there, show them a couple of training serials, make a few promises and these guys will jump at the chance to go and fight. There’s so much tribalism, feuding and religious strains of thought that it’s pretty simple to get them to fight each other too if that’s what you need. Safe to say this new and improved jihadi - currently wearing a rebel/freedom fighter uniform, but could be back to terrorist one next week - teleporting back onto your TV screens is no accident and is there to fulfil the aims of primarily the USA and Israel. You guys push Assad out, Russia and Iran with him and there you go, your own country to rule. Except we’ll bomb you once the task is complete and by the way Israel is just going to take a load of land off Syria, for a buffer zone you understand, there’s no wider strategic and geographic aims here, go about your business.
Assad is off back to work as an Ophthalmologist, a job he used to do in London, if you need your eyes squaring away next time you’re in Moscow.
