Morning, I have a feeling all I’m going to see on the timeline today is stuff about what happened in Southport, if that’s the case this could be a short one, because what can you say really?
It is, but we’ll try and persist.
Worth a quick watch this. It probably won’t surprise you, but I think it’s interesting in the context of the NPC meme, you’re literally seeing this mental update in real time.
People are busy, they don’t have time to do deep research on candidates and for the majority, they don’t want to stand out or be potentially outcast from their social groups. So all you have to do is listen for the talking point and say the line. That way everyone knows you can be trusted and you’ll be left alone to get on with your life. I saw someone mention that this is the most ‘feminine’ campaigning from the US they’ve ever seen, I think that’s fairly true. By feminine I mean just going on ‘vibes’, not substance. Trying to discredit someone just by calling the ‘weird’ is a pretty good example of that, it’s mean girl in and out group stuff. Basically saying ‘that JD Vance guy just gives me the ick, so I’m not voting for him’.
Mentioned this last week I think, but it’s worth reiterating that the opposition have access to what the government are doing, they can see the numbers, it’s the whole point of a shadow cabinet. None of this is a surprise and they’re lying to you when they say it is. This isn’t an attack on Labour, the Tories would do the same, the point is that they know this trick and don’t care about using it on you. I can think of plenty of useless shit we could cut to fill that £22 billion hole.
Right well it’s total carnage today, we’ll write it off and try again tomorrow. The only thing I’ll say on the Southport attack is be wary of the those who pull out the racist card if you ask about the background of the culprit. If you’re concerned about understanding why an event occurred then it’s a requirement to have all the details of it to make a fair and accurate assessment. It absolutely matters what his background is in its entirety. For example, it’s reported that his parents are Rwandan, here as asylum seekers and that he was born in Wales before moving at six to Southport. I would say that is important information to be aware of when thinking about this incident, considering he is reported to have used a machete. There is a relevant history there, things are rarely random and you are entitled to ask questions if someone decides to chop up children. I would suggest that those who want to call people racists for asking such questions reflect on why so often those people whose reaction to the now typical lack of initial details about the attacker is ‘no description is a full description’, have a habit of being correct.
We recorded a Horizon Scan episode yesterday evening, we talk about it on there, I’ll try and get it out today, shit internet allowing.
Have a good one.
